Friday June 11th, 2010

So tired right now. Need to pound this out and gets to bed.

Pretty fun and amusing night tonight. Went to the Yankee game which was a lot more fun than I expected it to be. First of all they were playing the dismal Houston Astros and secondly I don't give a s*@$ about the Yankees. It was a pretty tight game that went down to the very last out, allowing for the incomparable Mariano Rivera to aim for the save in the 9th. He struck out the side and all was good.

As me and my buddy headed for the guaranteed crowded subway, we arrived before most everyone else. But as the D train took forever to come, more and more people started to smush onto the platform.

Surprisingly enough, as the D train arrived we got on without much incident and had a fairly comfortable spot by the door. It could have been a hell of a lot more jammed in there.

All was fairly good until 125th street when a real nut squeezed onto the train.

He started spouting off some religious nonsense " I am Jesus, Mohamed. I am Jesus, Mohamed. You're all gonna burn in hell" bla bla, bla bla bla bla. This guy definitely appeared a bit misinformed and all kinds of disturbed.

Usually, a smart, sober person would ignore this kind of ranting and raving. Not on this car. Some idiot started egging the looney on, telling him to shut up and threatening to punch his lights out. Shit very well may have gone down is what I'm saying. And wouldn't you know, it had to happen on the longest stretch without a stop in the entire city of NY, 125th st. to 59th st. As I began to seriously root for the religious nut over the idiot who would engage his madness, a crazy thing happenned. An ass load of people exited the subway at 59th and all the sudden shit calmed down between these two idiots.

The crazy religious guy started praising the asshole for being a "bad ass mutha f$#@* like me" and so began a love affair that would last from 59th st. in Manhattan to Atlantic ave. in Brooklyn and who knows how much longer. During this stretch, these two men who I feared may kill each other, bonded for serious. The bum religous guy was doing most of the talking but he was chatting his new idiot pal non stop by complimenting him on his tattoos, talking about racial equality, teaching him about the fine art of Karate and last but certainly not least, displaying his best STREET FIGHTER moves.

As me and my bud transfered at Atlantic Ave., we had no idea of knowing how this new underground friendship would continue or end. Who knows, maybe it came full circle and ended in a violent shouting match.

But either way, the part I witnessed was one of the most fascinating and fully arced stories of human connection to ever grace the NY subway system.
