Saturday September 18th, 2010

Yom Kippur is gone and past. I fasted and save for a little water after dinner last night did the whole real deal (save for the 22-23 hours part).

Didn't quite make it back to Temple today, but that's alright as I put in my time last night. What I did do is see a movie, which is becoming a bit of a Yom Kippur tradition. Although my grandmother doesn't approve, I'll prob still keep doing it. After all, sometimes I think I believe in Cinema more than I do God. For the former the proof is in the pudding, whereas with the latter, well, it's based more on a leap of faith.

The movie I saw today was pretty phenomenal: NEVER LET ME GO. Not exactly a crowdpleaser but beautiful film nonetheless. Can't imagine a more appropriate movie on Yom Kippur than one that touches on death, dying and mortality and paints a picture of just how important the people we love are on our brief time on earth. Despite the depressing subject matter, the fact that these particular characters have even less time than we tend to get, helps put things in perspective and makes it a bit easier to stomach. If you're interested in seeing a well acted, beautifully shot and altogether worthwhile flick, I highly recommend you check it out.

Friday September 17th, 2010

Hello night owls,

crazy to think this is the first edition of UWTL in almost 2 months. Yes I have probably been uwtl a handful of times since our last rendezvous but alas I have been lazy.

Tonight, being Yom Kippur, I am going on 5+ hours without food, only 17-18 hours to go (yes I know that doesn't quite add up to 24, but I'm super super reform or as most other people call it Agnostic, so deal with it conservs!).

Anywho so tomorrow, there will be no food til supper, that is what's up. I'm hoping to be super lucid and able to focus and get some shiz done, but alas that may not be in the cards. If the afternoon arrives and more Temple seems as appealing as it does right now (which is not very), then maybe i'll go check out THE TOWN (Affleck yo!). Lot's o great movies starting to pop into theaters, gotta try and keep up. Saw EASY A tonight, the teen comedy starring the babe-aliscious Emma Stone. Went with the sis and the little cuz. A good time was had by all. Not quite MEAN GIRLS level girly teeny bopper brilliance, but alas not all such highschool comedies have the benefit of Tina Fey in front of and behind the camera.

That's it for tonight. If this post was just a return to meandering, aimless form, then get stoked cause I got a few more blogs launching soon. Both are significantly more focused. One is a photo blog with a slightly sick sense of humor (sorry ladies!) while the other will be an in depth look at where all great and awful TV begins, the Pilot phase. Hopefully both will be something slightly more than massive wastes of times. Who knows? Only times will tell.

Saturday July 31st-Sunday August 1st, 2010

Uwtl two nights in a row, neglected to blog last night so consider this a 2 for 1 special.

Last night the culprit was a little movie called HELLRAISER. It was on one o dose premium movie channels and I began watching out of curiosity and just couldn't stop. It was good or at the very least after midnight good. I even tivo'd the sequel after. I understand not quite as good but also not terrible.

Tonight the culprit was being out kinda late, then returning home with a need to watch the newest Ep. of MAD MEN. It's one of those shows that if you wait too long to watch, it might get ruined for you cause of it's buzzworthy-ness. I enjoyed it while eating a delicious sandwich, now i'm ready for bed.

Monday July 26th, 2010

UWTL yet again. This could have been avoided but alas it was not.

The final reason for my tardiness to bed was internet, proceeded by food, proceeded by this band, proceeded by some comedy.

All in all a stimulating night.

Saturday July 24th, 2010

Saw a Carl Reiner double feature of THE JERK and DEAD MEN DON'T WEAR PLAID at The Egyptin, with the man, the myth, the legend there in person which was very very cool. At I believe 88 years old, the man is still as sharp and brilliant and funny as ever and despite the idiots in the crowd providing the question portion of the good ole Q & A, he knocked it out of the park.

The movies themselves don't quite stand up to each other as THE JERK holds up as a true classic whereas DEAD MEN is a bit hit or miss.

So tired right now, much more could be said i'm sure but i'm just gonna end it here.

Friday July 23rd, 2010

Guess being UWTL is becoming a friday thing.

Whereas last week was a result of seeing an excellent and very long movie, this evening's uwtl-ness can be attributed to seeing one of my all time favorite bands in my all time favorite venues. That being RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE at The Hollywood Palladium.

The show was a benefit to fight Arizona's proposition 1070, and though it was unfortunate that the concert only occurred because of the injustices being committed in that state, I must say I enjoyed every minute of it.

There was a solid opener followed by the "co-headlining" Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, which I must say was very underwhelming (Turn it around, Bright Eyes). Then after what seemed like an eternal wait, RAGE took the stage and the place absolutely went nuts. Speaking of propositions, they should make one in the state of California that makes it illegal for such intense and awe-inspiring Rock to be played live in such modest venues as The Palladium. From the get go til the very last song the energy in the room was electric. I can't imagine how I would have felt if I hadn't seen RAGE at Rock The Bells three years prior, considering that I don't know how much more fun and sheer joy could have been experienced tonight.

Every since the band's last proper LA show at The Grand Olympic Auditorium 10 years ago when I was in 8th grade, I've been praying for the opportunity to see them live up close in LA. It was definitely everything and more than I hoped it would be.

INCEPTION.

Still trying to come to terms with this movie.

It was pretty great, and I imagine my dreams tonight could be very crazy.

Also, can't wait to be rid of my current IMAX headache.
